Analysis of Grapevine Hybrid Family with Molecular Markers Linked to Powdery Mildew Resistance Gene

A challenging goal of grapevine breeding is to combine high quality and resistance against the most important fungal diseases (powdery and downy mildew) in one cultivar. The use of various types of molecular markers, including resistance gene analogs (RGAs), can support these efforts. The locus Run1 responsible for powdery mildew resistance was identified in Muscadinia rotundifolia. Molecular markers closely linked to this locus are very useful for screening progenies deriving from M. rotundifolia and V. vinifera crosses. In our analyses, a BC5 progeny derived from the cross {(M. rotundifola x V. vinifera) BC4} x V. vinifera 'Cardinal' was scored based on symptoms of powdery mildew and analysed with PCR-RFLP and microsatellite markers.
