摘要
NDEs (near-death experiences) occur when a patient in or near clinical death is resuscitated and has memories of that period. NDEs have a profound impact on whole life, including aspects of spirituality and mental health. They are pleasant in most cases, but some patients report terrible experiences, with many harmful impacts. The article aims to discuss distressing NDEs and their consequences in light of medical and psychological authors. Reports of Brazilians distressing NDEs, collected during the author's doctoral research, were also analyzed. in conclusion, hypervigilance seems to be a common trait after a distressing NDE related to other consequences, such as PTSD, anxiety, and sleep disorders.
