Scientific point of view

The views of Evalyn Gates, the only female professor among 10 physics professors, on the need to recruit more female scientists, are presented. The latest American Institute of Physics (AIP) data reveals that female professors has increased from 3% in 1998 to 5% in 200, and the overall percentage of women faculty has increased at all levels. The number of women professors at the graduate and faculty levels remains low while the number of women hired into faculty positions remains commensurate with the available candidate pool. The AIP data reveals that unless more women are included in the education system at the undergraduate level, parity of male and female staff at the faculty will remain unsolved.
