EUS probes are a maturing technology that provides detailed imaging of the gastrointestinal wall for evaluation and staging of intramural and intraductal pathology. They are best suited for superficial mucosal lesions. Further studies comparing the relative cost and benefit of ultrasound probes to conventional EUS are necessary. © 2006 American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
