A novel two-dimensional MoS2 microspheres has been synthesised by a facile hydrothermal method. XRD, SEM, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy analysis were carried out to identify the phase, structural and functional groups. MoS2 sensor has been fabricated on glassy carbon (GC) electrode for the detection of 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0). The MoS2 modified GC showed improved electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of 4-AP. Well defined oxidation and reduction peak have been observed for the electrocatalytic activity of 4-AP by GC modified MoS2. Under optimized conditions, the fabricated electrode showed linear calibration plots over a wide range of 2-8 nM with the detection limit of 2 nM. This sensor can be used for real time 4-AP detection in waste-water.
