摘要
This paper presents a review on the role of Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) in Geography. This assessment is based on the impact of GIT on geographical conceptual development, education, research and professional practice. As a result of this evaluation, the importance of GIT on geographical science is emphasised. GIT should be considered within the core of Geography for several reasons. Firstly, geographers have a leading role in GIT research, with a significant contribution in scientific papers on these technologies. Secondly, GIT are clearly linked with the main traditions of geographic analysis. Thirdly, GIT have a critical impact on labour market, thus making one of the most prominent sources of professional practice for young geographers.
