摘要
Utilization of existing HVDC lines as actuators for wide-area damping control present many advantages over other actuation schemes, decreasing capital costs and time to deployment, for example. Two large, recently modernized HVDC lines currently exist in the western North American Power System (wNAPS) and are effective actuators, but are limited by number and geographical placement. Comparative analysis is performed in order to determine which is the most effective SISO actuator for several contingency events. The advantages and disadvantages of each controller are investigated using a linear model and the stability is assessed for each. Relative performance is evaluated using a detailed nonlinear simulation of the wNAPS while employing a geographically-segregated contingency analysis to determine the locations most impacted by each control system.
