MgO reflectance data for Monte Carlo simulation of LaBr3:Ce scintillation crystals

Present paper is aimed to estimate the spectral reflectance of MgO as a function of layer thickness around LaBr3:5%Ce crystals. A reference emission spectrum of scintillator was calculated averaging 15 experimental trends from literature. A survey on MgO reflectance provided experimental data in the wavelength region of interest without thickness information, while trends with dimensional facts were found in the adjacent wavelength region. An algorithm was developed for interpolating spectral data in the wavelength region of interest for given thickness. A comparison between reflectors for LaBr3:Ce is summarized in Appendix A. Results are presented in form of weighted average values as well as numerical trends suitable, in particular, as input for Monte Carlo simulations of encapsulated crystals. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
