摘要
Domestic animals have played a huge role in advancing our knowledge of the physiology of mammalian birth and while there are common essential elements, there are also marked species differences. Sheep are still the most studied and best characterized in this regard, and many more eloquent and comprehensive reviews on this subject have been written by biologists who have made substantial and lasting contributions [1-7]. This brief review will try to present a comparative view, highlighting some of the important variations among species with respect to steroidogenesis, and the role played by the fetal adrenal in initiation of the process of parturition. © J.
