Micromagnetics: past, present and future

The theory of micromagnetics started with great hopes of describing rigorously, all magnetization process in ferromagnets. This goal has never been achieved, or even approached. for several reasons. Some of the reasons are misinterpretations and mistakes, introduced by those who misunderstood the whole theoretical approach. These mistakes must be removed and corrected. Others may be inherent to the physical limitations of the theory, but they can be removed by some modification and generalization of the basic assumptions. The ways to proceed, and the directions that micromagnetics should take in the future, are listed here, based on extrapolating from its history, (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
