The year 1913 at The Comedie-Francaise, the end of a period

The year 1913 is marked by the end of the long mandate of Jules Claretie as administrator. Financially, the situation of the theatre is good, the company is brilliant, but its conception of repertory and stage direction is backward. The theatre has to close its doors during three months, and thus, can play in the theatre of Comic Opera and make a tour through France and Europe. The year 1913 is not particular, but is typical of the Claretie's period, through theatre programming and courant affairs. It closed this particular moment when Comedie-Francaise is not very interested in staging, especially in its recent development, such as Jacques Copeau and the theatre of Vieux-Colombier.
