The present-day Brazilian Chemical Society, in spite of its short life, has matured into an organization of great vitality. Many of its members are either only vaguely aware or even unaware of the Society's namesake predecessor which existed between 1922 and 1951. This article retraces the life of that first Brazilian Chemical Society from its inception and development up to its early demise.
