摘要
An overview of advances and controversies in the management of breast cancer and their impact on plastic breast surgery is presented, including prophylactic mastectomy for women at high risk of breast cancer, size and location of the primary tumor and feasibility of breast-conserving surgery and oncoplastic approach, the management of the axilla, postmastectomy radiation and chemotherapy, emerging breast reconstructive techniques and cancer risk, and oncological follow-up and imaging of the reconstructed breast. This material should help plastic surgeons to understand multiple specialty considerations regarding breast cancer and provide comprehensive surgical care and interventions in aesthetic and reconstructive settings.
