摘要
Elemental abundances of the chemically most primitive stars are believed to record the nucleosynthesis yields of the first generations of stars, their mass distribution, evolution, and nature of their supernova explosions. This paper reviews recent progresses in searches for extremely metal-poor stars ([Fe/H]< -3) in the Milky Way halo and studies of their chemical abundances, in particular our recent efforts of follow-up spectroscopy with the Subaru Telescope for candidate metal-poor stars discovered with SDSS/SEGUE. The metallicity distribution of extremely metal-poor stars ([Fe/H]< -3) and fraction and nature of carbon-enhanced stars among them are discussed.
