Study of Partial Discharge Activity in Oil Filled Needle-Plane Electrode Using Acoustic Emission Technique and Its Effect on Dielectric Liquid

摘要
The sustained partial discharge (PD) for a long time degrades the dielectric liquid and eventually leads to the total failure of the high voltage (HV) power equipment. Therefore, monitoring and measuring the PD is a vital task to safeguard the HV power equipment used in the power system network. To execute the PD activity in the HV laboratory, a prototype liquid dielectric test cell with needle-plane electrode arrangement has been used as per IEC 60270. The proposed work focuses on Acoustic Emission (AE) technique as an online condition monitoring tool for finding out the solution related to the PD activity inside the dielectric test cell. The obtained results confirm that AE method has a great potential to analyse the PD activity efficiently. Further, PD-affected transformer oil samples have also been analysed with UV-visible spectroscopy and the obtained results showed that it has the ability to know the quality of the degraded oil samples.
