Growth and structural X-ray investigations of scheelite-like single crystals Er, Ce:NaLa(MoO4)2 and Yb:NaGd(WO4)2

Concentration series of scheelite-like laser crystals, Yb:NaGd(WO4)(2) with different Yb concentrations, as well as NaLa(MoO4)(2), both undoped and doped by Er and different concentrations of Ce have been grown by Czochralski technique. The actual concentrations of dopants were measured by microprobe analysis, the segregation coefficients of dopants in the crystals are presented. For Er,Ce:NaLa(MoO4)(2) the undistorted scheelite-like (CaWO4) structure with statistical distribution of Na+ and Ln(3+) ions on Ca2+ sites, have been confirmed, whereas for NaGd(WO4)(2) crystals with the doubling of unit cell parameters have been found for the first time. The nature of colour centres, formed in NaLa(MoO4)(2) crystals, grown in oxygen-lack atmosphere, are discussed. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
