摘要
Subepithelial fibrogenesis is a component of tissue remodeling that is frequently observed in allergic diseases with mucosal involvement, such as asthma. The components of allergic inflammation, in particular Th2 cytokines and inflammatory cells, are able to favor tissue fibrosis by acting at different steps, either directly or through the promotion of fibrogenic Mediators, such as TGF-beta 1. Since the protective effect of corticosteroids on tissue fibrosis has not yet been clearly demonstrated, a better understanding of the contribution of the allergic reaction to this process appears necessary in order to identify new molecular targets aimed at preventing and/or reversing this phenomenon.
