Synergism in a binary mixture of nonionic and cationic surfactants

Magnitudes of CMC for the mixtures of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and Triton X-100 with various mole ratios of surfactant components in the bulk of aqueous solution were determined. Parameters of the molecular interaction in a mixed micelle and in the adsorption layer at the mixed surfactant solution-air interface as well as the composition of the mixed micelles and the adsorbed layer were calculated. The interaction energy between different molecules both in mixed micelles and the mixed adsorbed layer was shown to increase with the mole fraction of nonionic surfactant in a solution.
