A novel approach to refine surface grains in pure zinc using indentation scratch

摘要
In this work a novel technique to produce nearly ultrafine grained surface in Zn has been proposed. It involves scratching the Zn surface with 200 mN load at 150 degrees C. Evolution of texture and grain refinement post high temperature scratching has been captured using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). The formation of dislocation substructures both inside the {1 0 (1) over bar 2} < 1 0 <(1)over bar> 1 > twin and within the grain was key in controlling the recrystallization. A significant increase in hardness has been observed in a scratched groove which has been attributed to grain refinement. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
