Recently percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PBMV) has become a preferred method for treating patients with mitral stenosis (MS) showing comparable results with the surgical intervention. The aims of this single-centre retrospective study are: 1) to evaluate the echocardiographic incidence of mitral restenosis after a successful balloon dilation at a long-term follow-up of 4.6 +/- 2.2 years in a contemporary cohort of patients with MS, and 2) to identify predictors for development of mitral restenosis. Data from 100 consecutive patients who underwent successful PBMV within the period April 2007 - April 2014 at the Clinic of Cardiology at University Hospital "St. Anna", Sofia, were analyzed.
