Objectives: In this study we compare the values of some metabolic parameters, of some endothelial dysfunction markers as adiponectin, leptin and albuminuria between diabetic patients with lower versus higher UKPDS score. Also, correlations of the UKPDS score with the above parameters were observed. Implications: In this cross-sectional study 92 patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled. The patients were classified using the values obtained by UKPDS risk engine in two groups: low risk (<20%) and high risk group. The UKPDS score was correlated with UAE and atherogenic indexes. Originality: We demonstrated correlations of the UKPDS score with triglyceridemia and UAE, although these parameters are not included in the UKPDS algorithm. We suggest that general practitioners should focus on the investigations and treatment for dyslipidemia, blood pressure and kidney function for the patients with UKPDS risk >20%.
