Component-oriented development of application systems: A German report

Reuse is a traditional concept in the classical engineering disciplines. This paper shows the parallels between the component-based approach of human languages on the one hand and component-based application-systems in the software-engineering discipline on the other hand. We discuss the difference between adoption and selection of components. Furthermore, we present a classification of component types and an international component specification framework. Reuse strategies using component markets (based on variants) and the existence of standards are the substantial prerequisites for superior component-based application development.
