Effects of phenyl substituents on the mechanical and swelling properties of poly(dimethylsiloxane) networks

Networks prepared from 15% diphenylsiloxane structural units and 85% dimethylsiloxane units were studied to determine the effects of the bulky substituents on network elasticity and swelling in a good solvent. Intrinsic viscosity measurements were performed on the precursor chains to obtain information on the interaction parameter with toluene using a Stockmayer-Fixman analysis. The results were analyzed in the context of the Flory-Rehner model.
