Asthma probably is the most common potentially serious medical complication of pregnancy. This article reviews the literature on the maternal and perinatal effects of asthma during pregnancy. Adverse effects of asthma may be, in part, a function of asthma therapy, especially in the case of long-term oral corticosteroid administration.
