Aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,i]xanthenes were synthesized efficiently by one-pot reaction of beta-naphthol, aldehydes and 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone in the presence of sulfonic acid functionalized silica at 110 degrees C without solvent. All products were characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, MS techniques and elemental analysis.
