摘要
Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) generally consist of liquid crystal (LC) thin layers sandwiched between glass or plastic sheets whose inner surfaces are covered with alignment layers to align LC molecules. This article reviews the methods for LC alignments using nonrubbed, rubbed and UV irradiated photopolymer films; the characterizations of alignment films; and the mechanisms of LC alignment together with the mechanisms of the formation of pretilt angle.
