Treatment of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuber slices with dicyclohexylamine (DCHA) led to a reduction in some of endogenous polyamine (PA) titers and peroxidase (PO) activity in and to a decrease in the electrolyte leakage (EL) from the tissues. Simultaneously, these changes were associated with the alteration of interactions between this tissue and cadmium, and Phytophthora infestans. Two cultivars, Bintje and Bzura, respectively susceptible and resistant to cadmium and pathogen, were examined. Pretreatment of tuber slices with DCHA, before inoculation, resulted in limitation of infection in the susceptible tissues. The possible involvement of PA in the transduction of the cadmium and pathogen signals is discussed.
