The current situation and future prospects of trade and marketing of non-wood forest products (NWFP) in the Arkhangelsk region are discussed. In principle, internal and international markets are not limited for any NWFP. However, the buyers and sellers of the region trade with only 20-60% of the total actual harvested volume of NWFP. The main importers of NWFP are private companies in Sweden, Finland, Germany and Switzerland. Private trade of NWFP in the Arkhangelsk region is low at the moment. It is possible however, to increase the average volume of sales, by enterprises and local population, to 4500 tons in the next 2-4 years. There was no marketing of NWFP or even a need for it in the past. At present, marketing has been initiated, although there are no particular marketing services available for NWFP yet. For better development of marketing, some scientific study is required. The principle economic problem in NWFP utilisation is the development of markets, which are necessary for actual and efficient marketing.
