Duplex surface modification of pure Ti via thermal oxidation and gas nitriding: Preparation and electrochemical studies

摘要
The influence of surface modification treatments on the structural, mechanical, and corrosion properties of commercially pure titanium was studied by various tests. The oxynitride layers were formed by applying duplex treatment including thermal oxidation and nitriding at different temperatures. X-ray diffraction showed the formation of titanium oxide and nitride for oxynitrided samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated the formation of TiON in a sample that was nitrided at 900 degrees C. The microhardness in this sample was 7 times higher than in the untreated sample. Also, the mentioned sample exhibited the highest corrosion resistance in the simulated body fluid at 37 +/- 0.5 degrees C.
