The A(2) Sigma(+)-X-2 Pi(i) near-infrared electronic transition of AgO was observed for the first time. The spectrum was recorded with the high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer associated with the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope at Kitt Peak. The excited AgO molecules were produced in a low pressure silver hollow cathode sputter source. Constants for the A(2) Sigma(+) state of (AgO)-Ag-107 and (AgO)-Ag-109 and improved X-2 Pi(i) constants for (AgO)-Ag-107 and (AgO)-Ag-109 are presented. These two states are not a unique perturber pair and they do not follow the pure precession model. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
