摘要
Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a common and probably increasing phenomenon amongst youth. Scientific but also public interest has enormously increased during the past decade which led to a dramatic increase of knowledge and a better understanding of NSSI in youth. Nevertheless, there are still more open questions than answers regarding the development of NSSI. This review tries to summarise previous research on neurobiological and environmental factors, which are supposed to play a role in the development of NSSI; and to integrate these factors; in a common model of the development of NSSI.
