THE PROVINCE AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF URBAN LATIN AMERICAN NATIONAL STATE IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY: THE INVENTION OF RIO DE JANEIRO AS CAPITAL CITY

The question that guides our work is available in the set of relations between the state and the urban construction of National Projects in Latin America, especially with regard to Brazil. The process for listing gains greater visibility of the second half of the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, when cities claim the authority of his power against the territorial areas of the province articulated in the binomial latifundia - export. It is this texture that fall geographical processes of urban modernization inaugurated in Latin America, notably in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay) and in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), creating modem capitals as spaces for the exercise of political hegemonies and cultural.
