摘要
This paper deals with impairment aware routing and wavelength assignment problem in all optical networks. It provides information about simulation possibilities in classical optical network simulators and suggests implementation of simplified model that may be used in an environment of an Event Driven Simulator (EDS) like OMNeT++. The paper provides basic information about simulation methods used in classical commercial software and emphasizes important parts of these methods that must be preserved and that can be simplified or avoided. Based on this a new model is introduced that uses optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) for bit error rate (BER) estimation. Model evaluation is carried out on elementary network consisting of traffic generator, sink and above mentioned new model. The fiber link length granularity of 10 km is used and BER is obtained for two different optical modulations. On-off keying and binary phase shift keying was considered because they are often used in today's systems. Binary phase shift keying modulation has the same BER as quadrature phase shift keying and therefore was omitted from the graphs. The graph represents similar BER values for OMNeT++ model and Artis OptSim model therefore the new OMNeT++ model can be further used for simulations of routing problem based on BER without inaccuracy problem.
