An in-home employment program for people with mental illness

This paper describes an in-bone employment program for people with a mental illness. Work tasks were brought into the homes of people with mental illness who completed them at their own rate. When compared with individuals in a cross-matched control program, participants demonstrated significant improvement in self-esteem, while participation in the program increased the likelihood of participating in other work programs. As well as providing a satisfying and rewarding activity, in-home employment is a cost-effective way of preparing for participation in other community work programs. It may be especially valuable in boarding homes and homes for people who are elderly.
