摘要：

The age and growth of bigeye tuna captured in the region of the Madeira archipelago was investigated, using growth marks in vertebrae for ageing. The precision of the ageing procedure was high. There were no significant differences in growth for males and females. The growth curves estimated compare well with those of earlier authors who used marks on fin spines or length-based methods.
