摘要
This paper discusses the results from an experimental investigation conducted to study the effect on using cellulose fibres as cement replacement on the properties of lightweight cement composite. The fibres were recycled from waste paper and packaging and the content in the composite was ranged from 0% to 16% by mass of cement. The prepared specimens were tested after 28 day of curing in order to investigate compressive and tensile strengths, density and thermal conductivity. Also, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) examination was carried out. Results revealed that although there was general reduction in the compressive strength of concrete with the increase of fibre content, the thermal insulation properties of concrete were improved. Results from SEM examination showed a homogenous distribution of fibres in the matrix when using adequate water-cement ratio for different fibre contents. It may be concluded from this study that it is possible to use this material for the construction of non-load bearing walls and partitions, ceilings, and roofs. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
