Preparation for retirement: Problems and suggestions of retirees

This article presents a part of the results of a survey carried out in the project ''Preparation to Retirement Through Older Persons,'' financed by the European Commission in the European Year of Older People and Solidarity between Generations. The purpose of this study was to analyze problems and needs concerning retirement, to gain Knowledge on which to base the planning of retirement preparation programs for people still professionally active. In this context, rue analyzed the experience and suggestions of 478 retirees who belonged to a voluntary association for the elderly. Data were obtained via a questionnaire that the retired participants filled in themselves The results show that more than half had no problems in their retirement experience. A great interest, however was shown in the programs, without difference in set, age, education, or work experience Even those who stated they had had no problems with retirement showed interest in the initiatives. Analyses of results suggest adopting programs that cover a wide range of subjects, not only material but also psychological and social. The interest found indicates that development of retirement programs should be continued for those who are already retired.
