摘要
A theoretical model for electron excitation of atoms accompanying inner-shell ionization is presented here. Both the sudden creation of an inner-shell vacancy and the Coulomb interaction between the ionized electron and atomic electrons are taken into consideration. The transition amplitude is expressed as the sum of the conventional shake process and multipole transitions through the direct Coulomb interaction between electrons. The L-shell excitation probabilities accompanying K-shell photoionization of Ne are calculated and the contributions from the Coulomb interaction are discussed.
