ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTION FOR NEONATAL PARENTERAL NUTRITION

We describe an online information system for prescribing total parenteral nutrition of a high risk neonatal intensive care and high-risk units whose main objectives are to significantly reduce the data omission and calculation errors, to reduce the time of the prescription process and increase user satisfaction; serving as the main means of communication with the pharmacy department. With a web-based application, we can access it from any hospital computer terminal after the corresponding user and password login. After several months of parallel testing (simultaneous paper and electronic prescription), we eliminated it in February 2007 paper forms. We performed a quality control on the application's computations, validated throughout the process by a third party pharmacist. Medical and pharmaceutical users have assessed this online prescription system quite satisfactorily.
