B cell subsetting (especially human B cell subsetting) has now reached the same level of sophistication as T cell subsetting. We are now able to define the various subsets, relate them to autoimmune disease, understand their function, correlate them as the cell of origin of the B cell lymphomas and leukemias, and exploit them as diagnostics and therapeutics. What is left is the use of mAbs to target specific human B cell subsets in disease, a feature our T cell brethren have used for over 25 years. We are confident that that breakthrough is close. © 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
