Three epileptic patients with schizophrenia-like psychosis after temporal lobectomy are reported on. One patient suffered from chronic psychosis, and the other two from periodic psychosis. The evidence from these three cases suggested that the psychoses were not associated with excessive discharges within the temporal lobes of seizure origination. The psychotic episodes were postulated to be due to unknown postoperative biochemical and physiologic changes. (C) 1997 by Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
