摘要
High distributed generation (DG) penetration in electrical distribution systems may lead to various operational problems if it exceeds a particular value, known as the system's hosting capacity (HC). In this paper, the HC approach, its performance limits and enhancement techniques are presented. Further, HC enhancement of a typical distribution system is investigated as a constrained optimization problem using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique in both sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal conditions, while considering the recent Egyptian electricity distribution regulations. In the sinusoidal system, HC enhancement is examined using reactive power support by two approaches namely, shunt capacitor bank and DG units controlled by smart inverters. While in the non-sinusoidal system, optimal shunt capacitor banks and C-type shunt passive filter are studied as proposed compensators. The achieved results revealed that the optimized filter outperforms the conventional capacitor bank as it reached higher HC levels while complying with the system operational limits.
