Hormonal response of wheat seedlings to polyethylene glycol-induced water deficiency

摘要
The effect of water stress on cytokinin and ABA content was studied by immunoassay in durum wheat seedlings. Water deficiency was caused by submerging the roots in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution. Within two days after the treatment, PEG induced a considerable increase in root ABA content. Water stress initially decreased zeatin and zeatin riboside contents in both shoots and roots; however, by the third day, the level of cytokinins was restored. The importance of the changes in cytokinin concentration for plant adaptation to water stress is discussed.
