摘要：

The response of the double-layer around a planar charged membrane to an external static electric field, is obtained within the Poisson-Boltzmann approximation. The membrane is immersed in an ionic solution in equilibrium with a salt reservoir The polarization mechanism is discussed and in the case of a membrane impermeable to ions, the induced dipole is found to be of opposite direction to the applied field.
