Novastan(R) anticoagulation during renal stent implant in a patient with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia

We describe a case of a 70-year-old male who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery which was complicated by multiple thrombotic events associated with HIT. The thrombotic events were treated with intravenous argatroban (Novastan(R)). During the hospitalization the patient was found to require percutaneous bilateral renal artery revascularization for acute renal failure. The revascularization procedure was successfully accomplished with a high dose argatroban regimen. We present our report of a successful anticoagulation strategy during a peripheral intervention in a patient with WIT and the laboratory data which support this strategy.
