摘要
Presented and discussed are challenges that had to be addressed for generation of the first long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PET static and dynamic images. A brief comparison between the two main “schools of thought” behind the development of the only two implemented scanners at the time of writing is given. Although both aim to achieve the best possible quantitative static PET images and high-quality dynamic time-activity curves, their methods are different and reflect their history and future. As the benefits of the LAFOV are appealing to many, some popular strategies for cost management are briefly presented. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
