Multimedia content delivery using adaptive filtering in time-varying W-CDMA networks

摘要
This paper presents an adaptive filtering algorithm for the delivery of multimedia content with different quality of service (QoS) requirements, over wideband code-division multiple access (W-CDMA) networks. We assume that the service provider offers two distinct grades of service (GoS) to which users may subscribe: Premium, or Economy. Subscribers to the Premium service receive higher quality levels measured by a set of parameters such as coding rate and format. The proposed algorithm guarantees that all users receive their contractual level of quality while maximizing the radio links' throughput, and maintaining the QoS requirements (e.g., target B.E.R, maximum transfer delay, and percentage of packets lost or delayed) for each media stream (e.g., voice, video, and data) downloaded to the users. Multimedia adaptation filters are installed at the output ports of the radio network controller. Simulation results show significant improvement in terms of increasing the number of admitted users while reducing the percentage of packets lost or delayed.
