Idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome and pregnancy

Idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a rare entity of unknown etiology with a prognosis strongly related to heart involvement that may lead to restrictive endomyocardiopathy. Almost no information about interactions of hypereosinophilia and pregnancy are available. In the English literature there has been only one report of this disease associated with pregnancy, where an infant of a mother with HES presented transient hypereosinophilia. We report a patient with known idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome whose twin pregnancy was complicated by premature rupture of membranes (PROM) and subsequent fetal distress requiring preterm delivery.
