摘要
Old buildings have always been economic and cultural potential of previous generations. The phenomenon of the further use of abandoned industrial buildings is an topic that resonates in the European area from about the last third of the 20th century. Recently in Slovakia we began to emerge impulses that could be the solution for the amount of these objects. The article presents simple analysis of different ways of conversion of industrial buildings, which represent a significant potential for cultural and social life in many European cities. New dynamics of performing arts at the end of 20th century supported by philosophy of squatting allow industrial buildings to show various levels of activities and use - from community centre to being a part of international cultural networks. The goal is not exhaustive overview of existing conversions, but we looking for terms and conditions, which could industrial architecture offer to cultural events. The industrial environment can not remain only "dead" remains, but must find a new way to continue to keep it in the mind. This path is closely linked with the social approach to historical and traditional values which in the context of artistic activities in non-traditional areas give a new dimension to the current situation.
