摘要
Disks that have larger scale length and/or lower surface brightness than the Milky Way play a potentially important role in cosmology, Their true numbers are still uncertain, due to the strong observational selection effects against the detection of diffuse stellar systems. Low surface brightness galaxies may provide a substantial repository of baryons in the universe. Since their gas and stars do not drive their disk rotation, they are important dark matter laboratories.
